Landal Waterpark Oudehaske is a rising star in the Frisian lake district.

This holiday park distinguishes itself with water-oriented recreation, sailing, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, and fishing in a natural environment. Landal Waterpark Oudehaske was constructed sustainably, taking the natural surroundings into account. For these efforts, the park has received various awards and recognitions. But what is the secret to the success of the Awards?

Park manager Loeske Wijngaarden

Construction of the Landal Waterpark in Oudehaske began in 2025. The park is situated next to the 'Nannewiid' nature reserve, managed by Staatsbosbeheer, a lake featuring reed beds, woodland, and characteristic Frisian farmhouses. It was formed by peat extraction in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Today, it is an Eldorado for water sports such as sailing, canoeing, and stand-up paddleboarding. The small-scale park features sustainable, comfortable lodges, some equipped with indoor and outdoor saunas. The park recently received the Green Key Gold certification, while in January it was awarded the 'Best Newcomer Award' by Parkvakanties.nl.

Hands on mentality

Loeske Wijngaarden started as park manager in September. “Previously, I worked as operational park manager at Landal de Vlegge in Sibculo, Overijssel. I certainly acquired the hands-on mentality of a park manager when I ran a fashion store as an independent entrepreneur. Starting up a park like this requires a flexible attitude. It used to be a campsite. Through ParQio , a specialist in recreational real estate, it has been redeveloped into an up-to-date, small-scale holiday park.”

The efforts did not go unnoticed. At the presentation of the Parkvakanties Awards 2026 in January of this year, we received the 'Best Newcomer' Award. “It stands to reason that the park manager of 'a village within a village' also focuses on contacts with local businesses and organizations. “We work closely with local companies, such as Tweewielercentrum Heerenveen, Poiez supermarket, bakery Breimer, and Plaatselijk Belang.”

Sustainability top priority

Loeske Wijngaarden is quite proud of what has been achieved so far. For instance, the Green Key Gold certification was recently awarded. “Sustainability and attention to nature are top priorities. The park is gas-free, and regarding energy supply, we are almost self-sufficient. Although accommodations could already be booked in December 2025, the park is not yet completely finished. The access roads still need to be asphalted, and furthermore, the intention is to install a number of additional lodges. All lodges are accessible via a so-called 'key fob'. They are spaciously designed and comfortably furnished with as many natural materials as possible. Some lodges feature an indoor sauna, while other types have an outdoor sauna. Solar panels are installed on the roofs of the lodges.”

Modern energy storage system

the battery case

Loeske Wijngaarden: “Heating in the lodges is provided by both air conditioning and electric heating panels. Any surplus electricity is stored in special batteries.” For this reason, the park is equipped with a modern energy storage system (Pulzz 2000), which, among other things, reduces peak loads and provides emergency power in the event of a power outage. The system prevents grid congestion, optimizes energy consumption, and consequently results in savings on energy costs.

In short, Landal Waterpark Oudehaske is designed to be particularly sustainable. With direct access to Lake 'Nannewiid', guests can enjoy countless water sports activities such as swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, sailing, kayaking, and fishing. Located near the A7 between Joure and Heerenveen, the park is easily accessible from the Randstad and Amsterdam.

Landal Waterpark Oudehaske is located 6 kilometers from Joure and 11 kilometers from Heerenveen. Several museums can be visited in these cities. In Joure, there is Museum Joure, which combines the history of the Frisian brand Douwe Egberts with the history of the clockmaking workshops in the region. The museum possesses a unique collection of longcase clocks. In the 18th century, dozens of clockmakers and watchmakers settled here. This led to the popularity of the Frisian longcase clock. Related crafts such as cabinetmakers, dial painters, and goldsmiths and silversmiths also found work as a result. A special crafts route has been developed in Joure.
