Currently, 'Phase 2' applies to the risk of wildfires in all 25 Dutch safety regions. Recreationists and recreation businesses are asked to be vigilant regarding the risk of fire. In Phase 2, areas are not closed off. In Venray, a 100-hectare nature reserve is on fire. There, however, a warning has been issued to stay away from the area, and a campsite has already been evacuated due to smoke development.

Nature has been dry for quite some time. The risk of a wildfire breaking out is greater. During dry periods, a wildfire can develop quickly and unpredictably, especially in strong winds. Landowners, nature managers, and emergency services are extra vigilant during this period, but they also ask for your cooperation to prevent or limit the consequences of wildfires.

What can a recreation business do to prevent
Many recreational businesses are located in or next to a nature reserve. This creates additional risks and responsibilities. Since business owners are simply not trained in firefighting, the Fire Department has made an information page available with advice on making your business safer from fire.
