Attractions, carriers and government together in search of more sustainable transport for day recreation

On February 13, a large group of representatives of day attractions discussed with governments and transporters how they can make travel behavior to and from their attraction more sustainable. They recorded various ideas on a roadmap, which will be further developed with the sector in the coming months.

The challenge: “How do we ensure that sustainable travel becomes the norm for a day out? Fast, simple, smooth, and accessible to everyone. This way, we reduce CO2 emissions and contribute to a healthy living environment. That is the challenge we are working on—together with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. But that challenge is not easy: it is difficult to organize affordable alternatives to the fossil fuel car everywhere. And then the visitor also needs to be enticed to travel sustainably.”

The project was initiated by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management and is supervised by Platform31. On February 13, the kick-off meeting was held, to which a large number of day attractions were invited. A total of 55 people participated in the various knowledge sessions.

A roadmap with four routes was developed to:

  1. To make more sustainable travel options available,
  2. Better regional cooperation,
  3. To entice visitors to make sustainable choices and
  4. to ensure that day attractions and the mobility world are better aligned.

There will be a few follow-up meetings where ideas and initiatives will be further elaborated. The next meeting is scheduled for 15 April where the next version of the roadmap will be discussed.
