Unfortunately, it is not always possible to successfully launch an innovative concept in one go. After a false start, Water Attraction Amazonia will make its long-awaited comeback at Bellewaerde on 5 April. After months of testing and optimising, this world premiere is completely ready to offer visitors the ultimate experience.
Expectations were high, but the exclusive water attraction frequently let us down last summer. “ Amazonia was supposed to be the showstopper of our new themed zone Mundo Amazonia, but unfortunately, things didn't go as planned ,” says General Manager Stefaan Lemey. “ Because the attraction did not meet our requirements, we put attraction manufacturer INTAMIN back to work. Safety was never in question, but there were too many technical problems and the experience simply wasn't good enough. And at Bellewaerde, we settle for nothing less than top quality. ”

A world first does not come without challenges
Amazonia is anything but a run-of-the-mill attraction. Some technologies and unique combinations have never been used before in the world. Attraction builder INTAMIN is known for its innovative technologies and world-first attractions, but for water attractions, real-world testing is essential.
“The operation of such an innovative attraction can never be fully simulated on a computer. Only in real-world conditions do you discover how everything works together, and that clearly took more time than planned, partly due to delays in the delivery of crucial parts ,” explains Lemey. “ We noticed that the experience needed refinement. That is why we made the decision ourselves and put INTAMIN back to work. Because only the very best is good enough for our visitors .”
What has changed?
Since the temporary closure, Bellewaerde has wasted no time. The ride builder came on-site, analyzed everything thoroughly, and implemented technical adjustments where necessary. Amazonia was tested time and again. “ We pulled out all the stops ,” emphasizes Lemey. “ No half solutions, no quick fixes. Now we can say with full conviction: Amazonia is ready, it’s going to be Amazonijaaa! ”
Family park with a mission
Bellewaerde remains true to its three pillars: attractions, animals, and nature, and continues to invest in unique experiences. “ Amazonia is a world first and a true example of innovation in the amusement park sector. You don't just build an attraction and total experience of this magnitude. But when it finally succeeds, the satisfaction for the entire Bellewaerde team is all the greater ,” concludes Stefaan Lemey.
