From November 28th to December 29th, 2025, the city of Maastricht will once again be transformed into Magical Maastricht. Entertainment and unique decorations will make the city even more attractive to visitors during a period when Christmas and Sinterklaas are a major draw. More and more city centers are discovering the power of these elaborate Christmas markets, and it's becoming increasingly difficult to stand out.
Maastricht Marketing describes its offer to the consumer as follows:
These cold days have an extra warm glow, thanks to the atmospheric winter event on the Vrijthof and the thousands of lights that give the city an enchanting atmosphere. But the richly decorated shop windows and a stimulating cultural program also make these winter days just a little warmer in Maastricht.
Retailtainment with, among other things, a Ferris wheel and curling
Various activities and attractions are also being added to make the city center an attractive place for a family visit during this period. At Het Vrijthof, enthusiasts can, among other things, strap on a skate on the 1000-square-meter indoor ice rink, enjoy a game of curling on the curling rink, ride the 45-meter-high Ferris wheel, and enjoy winter delicacies at restaurants like the authentic Austrian Almhütte.

Different interpretation per city district
The Magical City Routes through the Jekerkwartier, Stokstraatkwartier, Sphinxkwartier, Wyck, and Céramique districts guide visitors and residents past the city's most atmospheric spots, adorned with beautiful decorations: from a Christmas tree over 10 meters tall along the Meuse River and illuminated squares and streets to lights that stretch all the way to the Provincial Government Building. Along the way, you can stop at shops and boutiques to find the most beautiful Christmas gifts. Or stop at one of Maastricht's many restaurants and cafés for coffee, a regional delicacy, or a gastronomic experience.
Cultural program with ambassador André Rieu
Maastricht's magical atmosphere is enhanced by a diverse cultural offering. One of the highlights is André Rieu's Winter Concerts on December 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21 at MECC Maastricht. In addition, the museums will showcase inspiring exhibitions, and there will be various concerts, theater performances, and other cultural events. The full program will be further developed in the coming months.
Multi-day stay in the mix
One day is far too short to explore wintery Maastricht. Maastricht Marketing is also promoting multi-day stays, which will benefit not only hotels but also the retail, cultural, and hospitality sectors.
