Plopsaland Belgium opens the Flying Cinema to the general public on Saturday, March 13, 2027. The opening date was announced in the new making-of series about the attraction. The Flying Cinema will be one of the highlights of Plopsaland Plaza, an investment of 25 million euros and also the largest investment ever in Plopsaland Belgium.
In the Flying Cinema, visitors take a seat in a moving gondola in front of an immense film dome. The combination of movement, image, sound, and scent creates the illusion that visitors are truly flying through the air. During the flight, visitors discover various recognizable locations in Europe together with Maya the Bee, including the Dutch tulip fields, Venice, Paris, and Plopsaland Ardennes. For the projection and audio, Plopsaland collaborates with Barco, a world-class Belgian player.
European first
The Flying Cinema is a so-called panoramic flight simulator and will be a European first of this specific type. Construction started at the end of September 2025. In the meantime, the initial decoration work has begun and the film dome is being installed in the building. Over the coming months, the technical installations, theming, and audiovisual elements will be brought together step by step.
Part of the largest investment ever in Plopsaland Belgium
The Flying Cinema is part of Plopsaland Plaza, a €25 million investment making it the largest investment ever in Plopsaland Belgium. The new plaza will become a central meeting place within the resort and combines attractions, gastronomy, and entertainment. In addition to the Flying Cinema, there will be the Grand Café, bowling, an arcade, and a renovated station for the Plopsa Express, among other things.
During the summer, Plopsaland Plaza becomes free to access after the theme park closes. This allows overnight guests, local residents, and tourists visiting the coast to go there in the evenings for dinner, a drink, or entertainment. The Flying Cinema will be accessible at those times with a separate ticket. In this way, Plopsaland Plaza plays an important role in the evening offerings on the Belgian coast even outside regular park hours.
Making-of takes viewers behind the scenes
The opening date was announced in a new making-of series about the development of the Flying Cinema. In the series, Gert Verhulst, among others, provides an exclusive insight into the creation of the attraction. Over the coming months, viewers will be taken behind the scenes of the project, from the first test flights and film shoots at Plopsaland Belgium to the installation of the cinema dome and the final finishing touches of the attraction.
