TivoliVredenburg Music Center Welcomes Nearly 1,5 Million Visitors in Anniversary Year

In the year that Tivoli Vredenburg celebrates its tenth anniversary, the Utrecht music building attracts a record number of visitors. Almost 1,5 million people visited TivoliVredenburg in 2024. That is almost 200.000 more than last year; a sign that interest in culture, concerts and theatre is increasing. Pretwerk.nl also counts cultural visits as leisure activities and performances with music are also regularly part of other forms of recreation.

Of the 1,5 million visitors, over 1,1 million went to the concert and event program that ranges from pop to jazz, classical to knowledge & debate, club nights and everything in between. Other visitors settled down for a bite to eat or a drink in café Het Gegeven Paard or Kitchen Bar Danel. With these visitor numbers, TivoliVredenburg has grown into the most visited music building in the Netherlands and one of the largest cultural organizations in the country.

Anniversary year

The growth can be partly explained by a busy ten-day jubilee in May and June. With more than 35 thousand visitors, TivoliVredenburg was literally bursting at the seams for ten days. At various new festivals and special jubilee concerts, from 24 May to 2 June, people danced until dawn, listened attentively and experimented a lot.

But above all, these figures indicate that the need for music and connection is great in these times, observes General Director Jeroen Bartelse. 'Attending a concert together, going out together – these are the things that give color and meaning to daily life.'

'I am proud of these figures. Especially when you consider that the building was originally designed to receive around 600.000 visitors. In ten years, we have become an accessible place for people from all corners of society. And those people will soon be able to literally walk in from all sides: with a new entrance on Vredenburgplein, the building will also open up to the city centre of Utrecht from February 2025.'
