WadNext puts sustainable tourism in the Wadden area on the international map.

From September 7 to 9, Ameland will be the focus of WadNext 2026. During this international conference, professionals from the Netherlands and Europe will come together to discuss the future of sustainable tourism in the Wadden Sea region. One of the highlights is the Green Destinations Award Ceremony, where international destinations are honored for their commitment to sustainable destination management.

WadNext focuses on themes that are becoming increasingly relevant to the recreation sector. How do destinations strike a good balance between visitors and residents? What does a sustainable transition look like in practice? And how can governments, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders work together on responsible destination management?

The conference brings together policymakers, destination managers, sustainability consultants, and researchers, among others. In doing so, WadNext offers an international platform for knowledge exchange and discussion on how tourist destinations can develop without losing sight of livability, nature, and local identity.

In this context, the Wadden Sea area serves as more than just the backdrop for the conference. The area has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009 and provides an interesting practical example of a destination where nature, tourism, the economy, and livability are closely interconnected.

You can register for the conference for all days or for a day of your choice via the WadNext website.
