FlixBus is preparing for an extraordinary year in Amsterdam with four major events from April to October, easing traffic flows during a busy period. The company is already experiencing a surge in bookings and will adjust its capacity to meet the influx of travelers heading to the Dutch capital.

King's Day is the first major event of the season. This historic event, moved to Saturday 26 April, promises to attract huge numbers of passengers from all over the Netherlands, but also from Belgium and Germany. A strong increase in the number of reservations can be seen, especially from cities such as Rotterdam, Maastricht, Brussels, Bremen or Dortmund.
On June 21, Amsterdam will celebrate its 750th anniversary with a Festival Op De Ring A10, a major milestone for tourism in the city. A highlight of this festival will be the partial closure of the ring road to accommodate various festivities. While this event will attract many visitors from all over the Netherlands, it will also pose an operational challenge for FlixBus, which will have to deal with potential traffic disruptions and limited access to some of its stops in Amsterdam, such as Centraal and Sloterdijk. FlixBus will divert to its existing stops at Schiphol and Bijlmer. FlixBus is already seeing a significant increase in bookings around the dates of this anniversary and plans to strengthen its network accordingly.
In addition, FlixBus also expects an extra high demand for the Amsterdam SAIL days this year. This year’s edition promises to be even more memorable than previous editions, as this will be the first edition since 2015, after the cancellation in 2020 due to Covid restrictions. FlixBus also plans to expand its service around this event to let as many passengers as possible enjoy the exceptional experience of Amsterdam SAIL.
What is traditionally an interesting period for FlixBus looks extra good this year. We are talking about Amsterdam Dance Event where passengers from all corners of Europe and the world come to enjoy various and daily events with the biggest artists between October 22 and 26.
Fokke Wim Velthuijsen, Director at FlixBus Benelux: “It is an exceptional year for the city of Amsterdam. At Flix, we want to enable as many passengers as possible to take part in these wonderful celebrations all year round. While some events may pose operational challenges for our teams, we are well prepared to meet the increasing demand and offer everyone the best travel experience.”
