Arcade experience Gamestate (Veltmeijer Group) is taking over the iconic arcade hall Circus Zandvoort. It is the first time that Gamestate will operate a cinema. Moreover, this new establishment of more than 2.000 square meters will be the largest Gamestate in the Netherlands.

In the coming months, Gamestate will be working on a lively and innovative concept that will inspire both fans of classic games and newcomers. On April 1, the current location will close its doors, after which the new gaming paradise will be grandly reopened at the beginning of the summer!
Circus Zandvoort has built a rich history as the arcade hall on the coast since its opening. Gamestate is proud to take this special location under its wing and breathe new life into it, while preserving the original charm that Circus Zandvoort is so famous for.

Roel Veltmeijer, owner of Gamestate, reacts enthusiastically to this new acquisition: “We actually had no more growth plans in the Netherlands, but we couldn't pass up this opportunity. It is a great honor to add Circus Zandvoort to our portfolio. The history of this place, combined with our passion for games and entertainment, offers a unique opportunity to create a new regional destination that embraces both nostalgia and innovation. We look forward to welcoming visitors to an environment that truly offers the best of both worlds, and are extra excited to now also have the first cinema in our portfolio!”
“Just like with arcades, despite all the online streaming possibilities, young people still find their way to the charm and coziness of a movie theater. People love social activities, whether it’s gaming with friends or watching a movie on a date with the smell of popcorn around you!” says Veltmeijer.
The initiative for this takeover came from Dutch real estate investor Payam Partovi, who will also become the new owner of the building through this step. Partovi often visited Circus Zandvoort as a child and always had fond memories of it. Years ago, he already played with the idea of one day becoming the owner of this striking building and he now sees this dream come true. Partovi: “After several failed attempts to get in touch, I decided to ask around for the owner on location. What I got was his email address, and that evening I sent an email asking whether Bas was open to selling. A few conversations later, the deal was closed and Roel had my preference to breathe new energy into the Circus with his Gamestate concept.”
The current owner of Circus Zandvoort, Bas Heino, has mixed feelings. He is disappointed in the government that recently decided to increase the rate of the gambling tax to a record high of almost 38%. As a result, a profitable operation of the casino section is no longer possible. At the same time, he is delighted with Gamestate, which will not offer games of chance. Heino: “Gamestate was at the top of my list to take over this location, pole position to remain in Zandvoort terms,” he laughs.

With the acquisition of Circus Zandvoort, Gamestate wants to write a new chapter in the Dutch gaming and cinema experience. The arcade hall will be transformed in the coming period into a lively location where the latest technologies and the classic charm of arcade halls come together. Keep an eye on Gamestate's social channels for updates and sneak previews of what this new and unique location has to offer.
