Leisure company Libéma has acquired Golf De Gulbergen from Attero. The Brabant company owns all shares as of March 1, but can call itself the owner retroactively from January 1 this year. The real estate on the golf course, which was previously owned by Metropool Regio Eindhoven (MRE), has also been taken over by Libéma. The management of the golf course will be continued by Gulbergen BV. No employment will be lost as a result of this takeover. The current golf club and academy, just like individual athletes, can continue to use the three courses.

Lots of opportunities
The adjacent Dierenrijk zoo has been owned by Libéma since 2004. Dirk Lips, director of Libéma, therefore knows the job very well: “We have been active here for twenty years, know the region and know what is going on. We see a lot of opportunities for this job. It is a beautiful site with not only the highest point in Brabant, but also the most beautiful hole in the province, with a height difference of 45 meters.”
The Brabant entrepreneur is himself a big sports fan and this also expresses itself professionally: “We are active in all kinds of areas in the sports world with Profcycling, Omnisport, Libéma Open, The Dutch Masters and as a partner of the BrabantSport Fund. We are therefore very pleased that we can now add a new branch with Golf De Gulbergen.”
Knowledge and expertise
Robine van Gerwen, manager of Golf De Gulbergen is happy with the new owner. “With this acquisition we become part of one of the largest leisure companies in the Netherlands. It will be nice to be able to make use of so much knowledge and expertise. I can't wait to develop the track even further together.”
Golf De Gulbergen consists of three loops: the Fairytale Course and the Dragonfly Course, which together form the eighteen-hole golf course, and the Old Course. The golf club of the same name is one of the larger associations in the Netherlands, with almost 1400 members. Lessons can be taken at the Golf Academy. Restaurant De Hooghe Bergh is located in the clubhouse on the course and is freely accessible, also for non-golfers.

Estate
The golf course is located on the Gulbergen Estate. In the first decades of the 20th century, a waste dump was created here instead of the heathlands and forests. The 90 hectare area has had a recreational function since the 325s. In addition to the zoo and golf course, there is also the 'Roof of Brabant'; a nature reserve on and around the old rubbish dump that is popular with walkers, cyclists and runners.
