This is a decrease compared to the previous year, with 2,5 million visitors, and well below the peak years of 2019 and 2023, with 2,7 million visitors. A museum like the Rijksmuseum is particularly dependent on major crowd-pullers—which also have international appeal.
The Rijksmuseum consistently ranks in the top 3 of the most visited day attractions in the Netherlands , and, despite this decline, is unlikely to lose that position anytime soon. The most important news of the past year was the announcement of a new museum (branch) in Eindhoven , for which a lead time of 6 to 8 years has been planned.
The public rated their visit to the Rijksmuseum an average of 8,65 this year. Online, the number of followers increased, and 7,5 million people visited the Rijksmuseum website. 50 million people were reached via social media. 300.000 people listened to the podcast In het Rijksmuseum . 405.000 children visited the museum, 155.000 of whom were with their school. 10.000 vocational students visited the Rijksmuseum.
The Rijksmuseum works closely with six museums in different regions of the Netherlands, united in the organization M6 . Participants are: Museum Gouda , the Markiezenhof in Bergen op Zoom, Gemeentemuseum Het Hannemahuis in Harlingen, the Westfries Museum in Hoorn, the Stedelijk Museum Zutphen , and the Limburgs Museum in Venlo. The first series of exhibitions, 'Treasures from the Rijks' by the M6, was visited by more than 300.000 visitors last year. Next year, a new series of exhibitions will start under the title: 'Faith, Hope and Love.'
