Museum Congress 2024: a connecting sector

The annual conference of and for the museum sector will take place this edition on 14 November in Musis, Arnhem. It will be a day where we celebrate the sector together. The theme is 'Connection', we will discuss how we as people and as a museum can make a positive difference with lasting impact, for the entire society.

Museums play an important role in society, not only economically, but also socially and socially. The sector connects people and communities. During the Museum Congress, the winners of the Vriendenloterij Museum Prize, the Museumkids Award and the Museum Talent Prize will also be announced.

Inspiring and diverse program

Programme maker and presenter Janine Abbring will chair the inspiring programme. There will be a plenary programme and various break-out sessions for which participants can register on the day itself. There will be substantive contributions from professionals from the Netherlands and abroad, including: Marise Voskens (chair of the board of the Museum Association and the Museum Card Foundation), Ahmed Marcouch (mayor of Arnhem), Marjolein van Heemstra (theatre maker), Esme Ward (director of the Manchester Museum), Raoul Heertje (stand-up comedian and writer) and Lammert Kamphuis (philosopher and theologian).

In the breakout sessions, we give museums a platform to talk about their solidarity and engaged projects and exhibitions. Museum op recept is a pilot project of the Dordrechts Museum, Bonnefanten, and Museum van de Geest; Zoӧp is from Het Nieuwe Instituut; Uit Armoede is from the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam; Tegenpolen is from Slot Loevestein; Gastvrijheid is from the Wereldmuseum; and Maatschappelijk Aandeelhouderschap is from the Discovery Museum.
