Over the past three years, the Dutch spent €29,4 billion on travel via tour operators. On average, they spend €2.429 per booking. Expenditure is higher for guided tours. In addition to price, the range of options also plays a crucial role in the traveler's choice. This is evident from the second edition of the National Tour Operators Benchmark, a large-scale study by Multiscope among nearly 6.600 Dutch people.

Average €2.429 per booking
The Dutch spend an average of €2.429 per booking with a tour operator. This is the total bill for the entire group. This includes both short and long holidays, within and outside Europe. In total, the Dutch booked 12,1 million trips. This brings the total expenditure with tour operators in the Netherlands to €29,4 billion in the past three years.
High expenses when traveling with a guide
The Dutch spend the most on a trip via Djoser (€4.029). NRV follows with €3.597. Sawadee (€3.534), Buro Scanbrit (€2.965) and Eliza was here (€2.952) complete the top five. It is striking that the vast majority of trips at Sawadee (98%), Djoser (95%) and NRV (90%) are guided. Guided trips are therefore often associated with higher expenses. Effeweg.nl is an exception. Although 53% of the trips are guided, the average expenditure is the lowest on the market at €938.
Supply and price are of great importance
For 53% of travellers, the 'offer' is the main reason to choose a tour operator. This makes it the most mentioned and most important factor in attracting customers. The 'price' also plays a major role. Almost half (45%) of bookers are influenced by this.
