The tourist tax is expected to generate 654,0 million euros for municipalities. This is 9,0 percent more than the previous year. 42,2 percent of the total revenue from the tourist tax comes from Amsterdam. In this municipality, the expected revenue rises by 9,8 million euros to 275,5 million euros, partly due to the expected growth in the number of visitors staying overnight in Amsterdam. This is evident from an inventory of municipal budgets by Statistics Netherlands (CBS).
In the remaining municipalities, the expected revenue from tourist tax will increase by an average of 13,2 percent. This is not only due to rate increases; some municipalities have also recently introduced tourist tax. Furthermore, some municipalities are also levying tax for the first time on the stay of migrant workers and other residents who are not registered with the municipality.
Property tax (OZB), waste disposal tax, sewerage tax, and parking fees are the four levies that generate the most revenue for municipalities. Together, they account for 84,7 percent of the total budgeted tax revenue, totaling €13,0 billion. Of these four levies, the expected revenue from parking fees is expected to increase the most, at 8,8 percent, followed by OZB (6,3 percent).
