The redesigned crypt in Ronse has reopened. Visitors can explore the crypt and basilica using the renewed scenography and digital applications. The visitor information is layered, so that visitors can experience the tour at their own pace and according to their interests.

Light columns and audio stories Stefaan Degand
The basic information is presented in text on seven contemporary light columns. Each light column also has an audio story by none other than Stefaan Degand, who lives nearby. These stories enrich the visit and enhance the experience.
Storytelling is certainly in the Saint-Hermescrypt the ideal way to create extra involvement with visitors in a serene way with respect for the place. The stories can be listened to via the heritage app on the visitors' smartphone or via an audio guide.
Central screen
The central screen with touch control is the icing on the cake. Via the screen, visitors can delve deeper into the history of this unique heritage site. Objects such as a medieval pilgrimage coin, a Merovingian shrine and other remarkable collection items can also be discovered on the screen in 3D. A module was also provided on the central screen for our city guides, which they can use to provide additional explanation.
Heritage App and Family Tour
In addition to the general tour, we also offer a family tour tailored to children (5 to 8 years). This tour is offered in its entirety via the heritage app. None other than “Hermes”, once the most famous cat in the country, takes the children along in tow in the crypt. Visitors scan the image of “Hermes the cat” on the light columns, receive a fun audio story and more explanation about the assignment. If children have successfully completed the search, they receive a nice souvenir in the experience center.
Share experiences
After visiting the crypt, visitors can share their experiences with us. We provide a tablet at the last stop in the crypt where visitors can answer a number of questions, where we of course gauge their findings. If desired, they can also leave their contacts here, then they will be included in our contacts and receive our newsletter.
Multilingualism
Since we are convinced that the Saint Hermes Basilica and crypt are an international tourist attraction for Ronse and the Flemish Ardennes, we have deliberately chosen to provide all the explanations in three languages (NFE). In addition to Stefaan Degand, other professional voices were also cast for the voices of the audio stories. The intention of the redesigned crypt is clear: we want to impress visitors with its simplicity and space and surprise visitors with experiential and educational tours.
