Following the auction of Rivoli Rotterdam, another major recreation project by Hennie van der Most will go to auction on September 22, 2026: Speelstad Oranje in the Drenthe village of Oranje. This amusement park has been closed since 2015. Van der Most had already sold the adjacent Vakantiepark Oranje at an earlier stage, and it is not part of this auction.
Earlier this year, the Rotterdam amusement park Rivoli (under construction) was already auctioned. It has since been opened by the new owner under the name Spelen bij Beelen . The proceeds from Rivoli proved insufficient to pay off all outstanding debts. Therefore, Speelstad Oranje and Bedrijventerrein Schuinesloot | Most are now also being auctioned. Both foreclosure auctions are being handled by notary firm AKD.
Play City Orange
The complex has a recreational zoning designation and includes, among other things, recreational facilities, catering spaces, a former hotel section with approximately 21 unfinished hotel rooms, and extensive parking and outdoor areas. The total usable floor area amounts to approximately 12.988 m².
Within the current zoning, opportunities exist for a new recreational use. Possible uses include recreation, leisure, overnight recreation, care concepts, or other recreational developments, depending on the applicable planning possibilities and any cooperation from the municipality.
Already empty since 2015
Speelstad Oranje is a former potato starch factory that was converted into a recreation park by entrepreneur Hennie van der Most. The park closed its doors in 2015 due to declining visitor numbers and persistent losses. Plans for a reopening failed, after which the complex stood vacant.
The adjacent Vakantiepark Oranje served as a reception location for asylum seekers for several years. In 2021, the holiday park was sold to a real estate company. The intended sale of Speelstad Oranje to three other entrepreneurs did not go through at the time.
In addition to Speelstad Oranje, the Schuinesloot Business Park is also being auctioned to pay off the debts. This is not a recreational location.

Potential buyers can view the property on Monday, August 24 (12:00–14:00) and Friday, September 18 (10:00–11:30). Private, unconditional bids can be submitted until September 7, 2026, at 23:59. The auction takes place online via Vastgoedveiling.nl.
