RCN Het Grote Bos in Doorn has opened a new 18-hole adventure golf course and installed twelve new six-person chalets. The expansion demonstrates how holiday parks are investing in enhanced experiences, sustainable accommodation, and a stronger connection with the landscape and heritage.
Adventure golf integrated into the landscape
A new 18-hole adventure golf course has opened at RCN Het Grote Bos holiday park in Doorn. The course is located close to the central reception building, the restaurant, and the meeting square.
During the construction, use was made of the elevation differences and the existing forest structure of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. In doing so, the new activity is added to the family offerings without the park placing an overtly artificial attraction in the landscape.
For holiday parks, adventure golf is a recognizable investment: it is accessible, suitable for multiple ages, and enhances the range of activities offered at the park.
Park profiles itself with nature and heritage
RCN Het Grote Bos is located in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park and is affiliated with the Hoeder van de Heuvelrug network. This network consists of organizations and companies that contribute to the preservation and development of the landscape.
The park also establishes a visible connection with the surrounding cultural heritage. New accommodations feature photos of castles and estates in the region, such as Moersbergen Castle and Hydepark Estate. This relationship is also reflected in the names of the chalets and bungalows.
The combination of forest, estates, and recreation aligns with the demand for accommodation concepts with a clear local identity.
Twelve new chalets Moerskerken
Twelve new six-person chalets have recently been installed. The chalets are named Moerskerken, referring to a castle in the area.
The site layout features a natural appearance, including wadis for rainwater collection and drainage. The chalets have a contemporary interior, two toilets, spacious shower facilities, and air conditioning that also functions as heating. According to the parties involved, good insulation was taken into account during construction to save energy.
The chalets were produced and installed by ARCABO from Nieuwleusen. The company works according to Lean Manufacturing, whereby chalets are assembled step-by-step via fixed assembly points. This method is intended to limit waste and make construction more efficient.
Events as an addition to the stay
In addition to the new golf course and chalets, RCN Het Grote Bos is focusing on events for guests and visitors from the surrounding area. This summer, the program includes a Shanti choir festival, Circus Harlekino, and the Goud van Oud festival, among others. NPO Radio 2 will also broadcast live from the park again in September.
For holiday parks, these types of program elements are important for adding more substance to the stay. They create extra activity at the park, strengthen the bond with the surrounding area, and can contribute to guest satisfaction beyond the regular entertainment program.
