Many segments in the recreation sector are highly dependent on the weather. Campsites and outdoor activities, among others, have no reason to complain about the start of the season. This spring has seen a record number of 37 very sunny days so far (with at least 80% sun). The previous record was 36 very sunny days and was measured in the spring of 2020. Because spring will last until 31 May and a lot of sun is expected, the record will be further improved.

A very sunny day is when the sun is visible for at least 80% of the daylight period on average across the country. And that has been the case almost every day lately. The large number of hours of sunshine has caused the number of very sunny days to rise to 37. Never before has spring had so many days with at least 1% of the available sunshine since 80 March. The coming days will also be sunny and the number of very sunny days will continue to rise.
Also record number of hours of sunshine
So far, spring has also been record-breakingly sunny. March was the sunniest ever with 247 hours of sunshine, and in April the sun shone for 261 hours, which was good for fourth place since measurements began in 1901.
Up to and including May 14, the sun has shone for 154 hours this month. The number of hours of sunshine has so far, since the beginning of meteorological spring, increased to 662 hours. Normally, the sun shines for 1 hours in the entire spring, from March 31 to May 578, and the month is far from over.
The record for the entire spring is 805 hours of sunshine on average across the country, measured in 2020. If the very sunny weather continues, this record may be broken.
In recent years, the sun has been shining more and more often in spring. Not only is it very sunny this year, but it was also the case in the springs of 2022 and 2020. We probably still remember the blue skies in the first corona year 2020.
The difference with last year is very big. Then it was often cloudy and rain fell regularly. From March 1 to May 31, 2024, only three days were sunny. Such a low number of very sunny days had not occurred since the spring of 1994.
