The Timbuktu theme zone with train is the largest investment to date for Sanjes Safari

The Frisian amusement park Sanjes Safari opened a completely new African theme zone 'Timboektoe' last month, including a small train and various play and climbing equipment. At a cost of €500.000, this was the largest investment to date. The photos of the new themed zone look promising

This attraction was designed and built by Speelmaatje in collaboration with Speelmaatje. The wooden structures were installed by Speelmaatje in February, after which the park itself took care of the further decoration and theming. The train is in principle freely accessible (no queue) and the capacity of the attraction is estimated at around 275 per hour.

The tower of 'Timbuktu' looms high above the hall of the park. The 8-meter-high tower is part of the new attraction, because anyone who comes closer will find an attractive African city with climbing and clambering structures, a sand play factory and a real mirage through which children can ride the train, among other things.

In the search for expansion, owner Visbeek has been thinking about the idea of creating a new attraction around Timbuktu for some time, he says. “The name Timbuktu evokes a sense of adventure in people. I wanted to do something with that.” In the company Speelmaatje, Visbeek found the creative partner who further developed and built the idea. Ultimately, it took six months to realize the new attraction.

Sanjes Safari is a combined amusement park and zoo with an area of 3 hectares. In 2023 the park received 60.000 visitors.
