Vue, Europe's largest private cinema operator, will open its first cinema in Amsterdam on December 16th. The new location, located in the Houthavens, also boasts the largest number of screens (15) in the Netherlands. With this location, Vue introduces a new perspective on cinema nights: visitors are invited to enjoy their evening not only in the cinema but also outside, enjoying a meal or drink before or after the film.

In the atmospheric Ultra Lux bar and the revamped "Vue Your Way" food and beverage concept, visitors can quickly and easily choose from a wide range of snacks and drinks. They can also check out themselves, scan their tickets at the access gates, and enjoy extras such as built-in wine coolers by the seats and Heineken beer on tap.
More luxurious, more modern and more personal
With fifteen screens, Vue Amsterdam is the largest cinema in the country. This allows Vue to showcase the full breadth of its programming: from the latest children's films and captivating arthouse gems to terrifying horror films and blockbusters. The screens range in capacity from 12 to 200 seats, and in each room, the screens span the entire width of the auditorium, so that even in the smaller screens, visitors are fully immersed in the story.

All lounges are equipped with electrically adjustable Lux seats. In the Ultra Lux rows, visitors can enjoy Ultra Lux seats: wide, luxurious cushioned seats with adjustable backrests and footrests, and more legroom. The icing on the cake: a built-in wine cooler, so chilled drinks are always within easy reach.
Joost Ligthart, General Manager at Vue Netherlands, says: “From December, Amsterdam truly has something new to offer in the world of cinema, and I am incredibly proud of the team that has creatively shaped this. We are very much looking forward to welcoming visitors to our first Vue location in the capital, which came about thanks in part to input from local residents. Vue puts the cinema-goer first and listens to their wishes. This interaction results in a cinema experience that goes far beyond simply watching a film.”
EPIC: new premium large format
Vue Amsterdam will be the first cinema in the Netherlands to feature an EPIC theatre: a revolutionary, cutting-edge format that elevates image and sound and represents the latest and greatest cinema technology. In this theatre, Vue will present a new Premium Large Format that combines award-winning Dolby Atmos sound with laser projection and Barco's leading HDR imaging technology. This technology delivers exceptionally high brightness, deep black levels, and powerful contrasts between light and shadow. EPIC offers six times the brightness of standard screens and a 3D audio environment featuring up to 64 channels.
The EPIC hall also features a screen approximately 17 meters wide, roughly the width of three canal houses side by side. This hall has 200 seats, while the smallest hall has twelve.
Evening out
Vue Amsterdam focuses on a night out, even before the movie has even started. Central to this approach is the Ultra Lux bar, designed like a stylish hotel bar. This is where guests can kick off their evening relaxing with a snack and drink. The revamped food and beverage offering complements this seamlessly, with a wide selection of snacks, smaller dishes, and more refined options. Visitors can expect recognizable A-brands and more luxurious choices.
Vue is the second-largest cinema chain in the Netherlands, with a market share of 12%. The largest cinema chain in the Netherlands is Pathé (47% market share). Belgian cinema chain Kinepolis also operates in the Netherlands, with an 11% market share.
At the moment, the largest cinema in the Netherlands is in Utrecht: Kinepolis Utrecht with 14 screens and 2988 seats.
