Summer holidays start fresh and changeable, warmer weather is on the way

The school holidays in the South Netherlands region start on July 6. July will start off quite cool and changeable. This means that there is regular rain, but the sun also shines regularly. Towards the middle of the month the temperature rises to normal values of 21-24 degrees. The second half of the month promises to be a bit warmer and less changeable. That is good news for holidaymakers in their own country.

For the first half of July, the weather models show a high chance of changeable weather, with slightly more precipitation than normal. Yet it does not rain much more often than it does. In an average July it rains only 5% of the time and now it may be slightly more often, but dry periods will still dominate. The sun will also shine regularly between the showers and rain zones.

At the beginning of July the wind blows from the west, making it a bit on the chilly side for the beginning of July with maximum temperatures of 18-22 degrees. Normally it is 20-24 degrees in the first ten days of July. It is now too chilly to lie on the beach, but the weather is very suitable for being active outside. Towards the middle of July the wind turns to the southwest, bringing in somewhat warmer air. The temperature then rises to normal values from 21 degrees in the northwest to 24 degrees in the southeast.

Warmer and drier second half of July

In the second half of July, when all schools have summer holidays, the chance of summer days increases. The temperature is around or slightly above normal of 22-25 degrees. This means that the wind only needs to blow from the south for a while and it will be warm in the summer with maximum temperatures of 25 degrees and more.

There may also be a tropical outlier in the second half of July. Normally there are two official tropical days (with 30 degrees and more) in De Bilt in July. There are as yet no signals for extreme heat with maximum temperatures above 35 degrees.

The weather picture consists of a usual mix of clouds, sun and a few showers. The expected precipitation amounts are at a normal level, which means that the second half of July appears to be drier than the first half.

High sunshine in July and still a risk of hay fever

In July, the days are still long and the UV index often reaches 6-7. Sun protection is therefore necessary. The advice from Weeronline and the Huidfonds is consequently to avoid the sun, wear protective clothing, or apply sunscreen . And those suffering from a grass pollen allergy should still expect symptoms in July, although the grass flowering will gradually decrease. However, many herbs still come into bloom in July, including mugwort. This plant causes hay fever symptoms in quite a few people at the end of July.
